My love is sewing. It’s as easy as that. I’ve been sewing from a very young age and actually don’t remember the first time I went on a sewing machine. It’s one of those things that was just with me.
The older I got the more I knew I just wanted to sew, and I am very lucky to say that it’s my hobby but also my job. When I was 18 I went to University at Rochester (Kent) and studied Fashion Atelier. I did a three year full time degree here learning to sew and make patterns in a truly couture way. Once I graduated I did various interning jobs in London such as work in the Coast head office with the design team and also sew at a start up couture house called Sorapol. After a couple of months of being out of University I got my first “proper” job at a Made to measure bridal and evening wear shop in Fulham called “Antonia Pugh-Thomas”
I spent three years here learning so many new skills and being a part of hundreds of garments including wedding dresses, bridesmaid dresses and evening dresses.
From here I went on to work at a company based in Battersea called “Fiona Clare” I started woking full time and then slowly started to build up my own business to what it is today. At Fiona’s I worked mostly with wedding dresses and mother of the bride outfits. And my job was to do the hand finishing of the couture garments, including beading and lace work.
After working in London for a while I knew that eventually I would want to move a bit closer to home (Wales) So we made the move to Bristol where I have rebranded myself as The Bristol Seamstress. Working in my studio creating made to measure garments for clients and I also have an Etsy shop selling handmade things. I am always looking for the next creative challenge and love to collaborate with like minded people.
